DEEP FRIED

Deep Fried is a queer, bildungsroman campus novel set in 1995 amongst the dense forests of rural Oregon. VAL, an obsessive 22-year old diner waitress, is the newcomer amongst a misfit ensemble cast of seven and perhaps their downfall. Following a year of unravelling, Deep Fried is Val’s exegesis on the rise and fall of her friends, steeped in complex relationship dynamics, explorations of sexuality and mental ill health, and commentary on the consequences of glamorising trauma.
